NBA Sports Report Chris Paul not going to the Lakers is going to the Clippers by Jamestowncalif.com Sports http://Twitter.com/JamesCalTustin
Good Evening
The News of Chris Paul being traded from the New Orleans Hornets to the Los Angeles Clippers is one of the most controversial style trades I have noticed since covering/following basketball at Magic Johnsons Pick to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Chris Paul had one season left on his contract with the Hornets. Now that the Strike is over and Opening Day on Christmas, teams are making moves to acquire players. Chris Paul is a tremendous one guard. Paul is young, fast, and confident. He makes outside shots and looks good on the fast break.
The Los Angeles Lakers wanted Chris Paul. With Kobe and Paul in the backcourt, the Lakers add something they needed and that is a point guard. Derek Fisher needs someone to help out with minutes to relieve some of that pressure in the regular season. The Los Angeles Lakers always have been a team that makes deals to make the team better. It is nothing new. Google all the times the Lakers have made moves, and never have I noticed a time when a Commissioner blocked a trade deal.
Lebron James and Chris Bosh was a trade that added talent to the Miami Heat. I don’t see how if Lebron James is playing with D Wade why Chris Paul isn’t allowed to be playing with Kobe. The balance I don’t buy it.
Regardless what made that trade not happen was more so getting a deal from another team with that team the Los Angeles Clippers.
Basically the drama of the trade deals I find amusing how players are upset or say publically that they are sad and hurt with trade rumors. Lamar Odom was hurt for being traded to the Dallas Mavericks. It wasn’t like he was traded to the Toronto Raptures. Lamar was traded to the World Champion Mavs, and he’s hurt because the Lakers dealt him. What I am going to point out is I always hear players talking about the NBA a business and how trades are a part of the league. While there is an NBA strike that whole time, after the agreements are made to get the strike over with and start a season, the players know what the owners are going to do now the season is starting. One of those things is teams are going to make trades. Every team wants to win the World Championship.
The Los Angeles Lakers are accustomed of having a team that strives for that World Championship every single season. It’s Lakers Basketball. I am one of those people that can’t wait to see Kobe Bryant Slam-dunk in somebody’s face. The Lakers also have the Thunder along with the Mavs to compete with. The Mavs are stacked with 10-12 players. Now the Lakers are a #3-5 team in the West regular season without securing Paul. With Paul, the Lakers may have been a #1 next five seasons. The Commissioner fully aware of this prevented a deal that had Paul going to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Bynum and Gasol have expressed their feelings of hurt the fact that they were used as trading bait in the Chris Paul deal. After the strike, the players are aware that a player may be traded. I understand that I does hurt leaving the Lakers, Lakers Nation, & Lakers Family.
The Deal to acquire Chris Paul, I think the Clippers didn’t get a good deal. Were the Clippers taken advantage of being giving up 3 players and 1st Round Pick to the Hornets and was that the reason for the blocking of the trade with another team?
Had the Lakers traded one of the big men for Paul plus some dough that is a fair trade. Instead the Commissioner coersed the trade to have the Clippers give up half their team to get Paul and a first round pick from the Wolves. Basically the Chris Paul trade may have not been a good trade for the Clippers. The Clippers give up Eric Gordon, Chris Kaman, Al Farouq Aminu, and a 1st Round Draft Pick from the Minnesota T-Wolves a team that is going to get a good pick. This season the level of talent in the NCAA for basketball is good, and that pick alone may be better than Chris Paul in the long term. The Hornets received half a starting five, and a franchise Collegiant draft choice 2012 for 1 player.
Chris Paul is a Los Angeles Clipper. Paul with Griffen will be attractive and improve the team in the short term. Clippers fans are going to miss Kaman. What I dislike about this trade is how the Commissioner interfered in the Paul deal to the Los Angeles Lakers. I don’t care why he did prevent the trade. What it looks like is to get a better deal for himself thus being prejudice to another team. I am a Lakers Fan.
